View plants at different maturity stages
Preview a design at Year 1, Year 5, Year 10, or mature size, and override the maturity of individual plants when needed.

A planting plan can look generous on installation day and crowded a decade later. Klora’s growth view lets you move the whole design forward in time so you can judge spacing, layering, shade, and the balance between young and established plants before anything goes in the ground.
The growth view changes how plants are shown and modeled. It does not change the mature size stored for a species in the plant library.
Change the growth view for the whole plan
Find the growth-stage control
On a wide screen, use the growth-stage menu in the top app bar beside the season control.
On a phone or tablet, open the main menu. The view controls move into the menu sheet when there is not enough room for them in the app bar.
Choose a stage
Choose Year 1, Year 5, Year 10, or Mature.
Review the plan at that stage
Plants that follow the global view resize together. Use the different stages to check whether young plantings leave intentional gaps, whether shrubs and perennials eventually knit together, and whether trees will overwhelm nearby planting as their canopies expand.
What changes with the growth view
Klora uses the selected stage when it resolves the size of new plantings. That size is used consistently across the plan, including the illustrated plant footprint and calculations that depend on plant dimensions, such as modeled shade.
The stages are design checkpoints rather than literal predictions of exactly how large every individual plant will be in a particular year. Actual growth depends on species, cultivar, climate, soil, care, and site conditions. Use the view to test the composition at useful points in its development.
The Mature view is only as accurate as the mature width and height stored for each species. If a plant looks fundamentally too large or too small at maturity, correct its plant data instead of using a maturity override to compensate. See Edit plant size and data.
Existing plants and the global view
Plants marked Existing on site default to their mature size. They do not shrink back to Year 1 when you move the rest of a proposed planting to an earlier stage.
That makes the growth view useful for renovation plans: an established tree or shrub can stay at its current assumed size while new planting around it progresses from Year 1 toward maturity.
If an existing plant is not actually mature, give that individual plant its own size / maturity setting.
Override the maturity of one plant
A per-plant override is useful when one plant should not follow the rest of the design—for example, an established young tree, a recently planted shrub in an otherwise mature plan, or an existing plant whose current size you know approximately.
Select the plant
Choose Select, then click the plant on the canvas.
Open its properties
On a wide screen, the properties panel opens with the selected plant. On a phone or tablet, tap the selection chip and choose Edit.
Set Size / maturity
Under Size / maturity, choose Year 1, Year 5, Year 10, or Mature.
For a new plant, Follow global growth view removes the override. For an existing plant, the default is Mature.
Check the other growth stages
Change the global growth view again. The overridden plant keeps its chosen stage while other new plantings continue to follow the global view.
When to use an override—and when not to
Use Size / maturity when the species data is right but this particular placement is at a different stage of growth.
Edit the plant’s library data when the species itself has the wrong mature width or height. A correction to mature size should apply wherever that species is used; a maturity override belongs only to one placed plant.
If Klora has a measured height or canopy width for a surveyed tree, that real-world measurement takes priority over both the global growth view and the per-plant maturity setting. The plant properties panel identifies measured-size plants and lets you return to species sizing with Use species size.
A useful design workflow
Start at Mature while setting the main structure of the planting. This makes it easier to see where trees, large shrubs, and broad perennial masses ultimately compete for space.
Then move backward through Year 10, Year 5, and Year 1. Look for places where the young design feels empty enough that you may be tempted to overplant. Those gaps are often the space the mature composition needs later.
For beds with a mix of existing and proposed plants, add per-plant overrides only where you know the individual plant is meaningfully younger or smaller than its default.
A plant does not change when I change the global growth view
Select it and check Size / maturity. It may have a per-plant override. Plants marked Existing on site also default to mature size instead of following the global view.
A mature plant still looks much too large or small
The species’ mature dimensions may need correction. Open the plant in the library and edit its mature width and height. See Edit plant size and data.
A surveyed tree ignores the maturity setting
A measured height or canopy width is more specific than the species growth estimate, so Klora uses the measurement. In the plant properties panel, choose Use species size if you intentionally want to discard the measurement.
