Best for planning an actual garden: Klora

If you can model it, SketchUp can represent it.
But SketchUp does not inherently know that the circle you just drew is a panicle hydrangea that matures to five feet wide and blooms on new wood. To SketchUp, it is geometry unless you build a workflow around additional data and components.
Choose SketchUp if:
- You want detailed 3D control.
- You are designing structures as much as plants.
- You want to model decks, pergolas, retaining walls or buildings.
- You are comfortable learning more sophisticated design software.
- You want nearly unlimited freedom over geometry.

What about AI landscape design apps?
AI has made landscape visualization dramatically easier.
Upload a photograph, describe the style you want and an AI model can often produce an impressive transformed yard in seconds.
That is useful.
It is also important to understand what the resulting image is.
An AI landscape rendering is primarily an idea, not a planting plan.
The image may contain:
- Plants that do not exist
- Plants that are inappropriate for your climate

Klora exists largely because there was an awkward gap between these categories.
Professional landscape-design software was far more powerful than most homeowners needed.
Visualization apps were good at showing what a finished landscape could feel like, but less useful for working out the actual planting plan.
And generic drawing tools could represent a garden without understanding much about it.
For a homeowner doing their own landscaping, the fallback was often some combination of graph paper, nursery tabs, spreadsheets, screenshots, notes and repeated trips to the garden center.
